What is the Gabriel Project? Can you imagine what it would be like to have a pregnant daughter who did not want her baby? The Gabriel Project is an ecumenical movement of churches standing together in their willingness to offer assistance to women facing crisis pregnancies. Each congregation does two things.
First, it advertises this willingness by placing a sign in front of the church indicating their support of unwed mothers. And secondly it develops its own unique response to mothers under its care. The end result is that each community is at liberty to respond to the mothers' needs in its own way.
What specific services are provided? The Gabriel Project churches render emotional support, pastoral care, medical aid, financial assistance, housing, and adoption resources.
What is the spiritual foundation for this project? The goal of this service is to encourage the church to "care for the widow and the fatherless in the moment of their distress" (James 1:27). The congregation will do this by greeting any pregnant woman with love. We will bring Jesus into her life and her home. We will stay with her help her for as long as she needs us. We thus encourage her to seek God's perfect model for motherhood. By this, our heart will be turned to Jesus, to make Him known and loved by everyone.
